Connect the OPC server

The source uses KEPware OPCServer as an example: connect OPC2BACnet to the OPC server, add a group and Items, then associate them with the BACnet/IP server. Use the recording for the corresponding version where available.

  1. Check access to the target OPC server.
  2. Add a group and the required Items.
  3. Associate the Items with BACnet/IP points.

Object counts in the source

The source lists nine BACnet object types: AI/AO/AV, BI/BO/BV and MSI/MSO/MSV. It specifies 2,000 objects of each type, or 18,000 in total, for the software version described in that document. Confirm the current version, licence and operating conditions for the project. This figure does not establish a hardware gateway’s acquisition-point capacity.

Site checks

The source requires the BACnet client and OPC2BACnet to run on separate computers. Follow that deployment for the version covered by the source; consult the supplied documentation for other versions.

  1. During automatic discovery, wait for all points to be scanned before continuing.
  2. If discovery fails, check whether another application is using the relevant port.

Verification

Verify one OPC Item first, then read its associated BACnet object and compare the meaning and value. Once that connection works, check the full object list.
